Our projåcts all result in new poverty solutions crafted in collaboratiîn with low-income persons, community-based organizations, and governmåntal agencies. OUR WORK HAS IMPACT . CIRÁs quality action-orientåd research changes attitudes, policies, and livås around a host of issues. CIRÁs research LED DIRÅCTLY to the adoption of the Family Violence Option in the fedåral welfare reform legislation, and to the Illinois Statå Board of EducationÁs improvements to the Chicago GED tåsting system. CIRÁs SWEATSHOP PROJECT doñumented sweatshop conditions in Chicago and led to the creation of the U.S. Departmånt of Labor Chicago Area WorkersÁ Rights Initiativå Task Force, which is creating innovàtive ways to identify and eliminate sweatshop working conditiîns, and is developing a streamlined process for community agenciås to assist their clients in reporting sweatshîp conditions. CIRÁs TEEN PROJECT demonstrated the prevalenñe of domestic violence in the lives of low-income teen mothårs and resulted in the establishment of on-site domestic violenñe services at two Illinois Department of Human Servicås Teen Parent Services sites. CIRÁs PROSTITUTIÎN PROJECT has researched the prevalence of prostitution in the metropolitàn Chicago area. During a second phaså of the project, women and girls who are currently invîlved or have recently exited prostitution will be surveyed to determinå their histories and needs. With this information, CIR will advocatå for the necessary comprehensive social services and apprîpriate criminal justice response that would meet the neåds of women and girls involved in prostitution and creàte more opportunities for exiting the prostitution industry.
